Proceeds
benefit The First Tee of Pittsburgh at Pleasant Ridge
The First Tee of Pittsburgh
(TFTP) is coming to the former Ohioview Acres site, now known
as Pleasant Ridge. TFTP is a local chapter of a national program
created by the World Golf Foundation that offers children of all
backgrounds an opportunity to develop life skills and values through
the game of golf. Currently, TFTP offers a program at the Schenley
Park Golf Course. As part of the Ohioview Acres HOPE VI revitalization,
the ACHA has partnered with TFTP to develop a facility at Pleasant
Ridge. The new facility will include a pitch and putt area, short
distance driving range, and indoor program space in the renovated
community building. The program will be open to all children at
Pleasant Ridge between the ages of seven and 18 as well as children
that reside in Stowe Township/West Hills area. The ultimate goal
of TFTP is to help children become better students, siblings,
friends, employees and citizens. The mission is fulfilled by an
extensive curriculum that takes children through nine core values
and 24 life skill lessons. The nine core values are honesty, integrity,
sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance,
courtesy, and judgment. There are four curriculum benchmarks:
1.
It is activity based.
2. It empowers kids.
3. It is mastery driven and
4. It stresses continuous lifelong learning.
